Premier League Weekend Preview

barclays-premier-league returns

Introduction

Last weeks Premier League action saw Tottenham go top of the Premier League table after they thrashed QPR 4-0 at Loftus Road, Harry Redknapp's QPR look like they could be early relegation candidates after losing both of their opening matches. Manchester City and Chelsea on the other hand are on maximum points after their opening two games, both sides have very strong squads and this seasons Premier League title will almost certainly be won by either Manchester City or Chelsea.

Burnley v Manchester United

Louis Van Gaal's Man United will be looking to win their first game of the season this weekend after a disappointing start. Astonishingly United continued their poor start at MK Dons on Tuesday evening, they were thrashed 4-0. Admittedly it wasn't United's strongest eleven but it should have been good enough to beat an average League One side. Like United, Burnley are also looking to record their first victory of the campaign after losing their opening two games against Chelsea and Swansea, they also lost in the League Cup on Tuesday against Sheffield Wednesday at Turf Moor. I feel that United will be too strong for Burnley on Saturday and the record breaking signing of Di Maria will inevitably improve the United squad, Robin Van Persie should also be back to full fitness which is a huge boost for Van Gaal. To add to that the additions to the Burnley squad have been disappointing to say the least, I can only see one winner in this match.

Recommended Bet: Man United -1 goal v Burnley – SkyBet @ 13/8

Newcastle v Crystal Palace

My favourite bet of the footballing weekend comes from St.James' Park where Newcastle United face Crystal Palace. Palace have just appointed Neil Warnock as their new manager following the departure of Tony Pulis. This is a poor decision from the Palace board in my opinion, Warnock has won just 24% of the matches he has managed in the Premier League. To make things worst they have lost their opening two games of the season therefore picking up a result on Saturday is important for Palace and Warnock. Newcastle on the other hand have had a tough start to their season, they faced Man City on the opening day of the season and lost 2-0, it was a very good performance from Newcastle who appear to have made some very good signings. They followed that up with a 0-0 draw at Villa Park, Newcastle deserved to win that day after they were dominant in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net. The return to fitness of Siem De Jong will be a boost for Newcastle, the Dutchman scored 57 goals in 168 games whilst at Ajax.

Recommended Bet: Newcastle to beat Palace – Paddy Power @ 3/4

Swansea v West Brom

Swansea manager Garry Monk couldn't of hoped for a better start to his first full season in charge of the Welsh side. They pulled off a 2-1 victory against Man United at Old Trafford and last week Swansea beat Burnley 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium. The signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Tottenham has certainly improved their squad, he could well end up being one of the signings of the season. West Brom also have a new manager in charge in Alan Irvine, the appointment certainly did not go down well with the fans but a win this weekend would surely get the Scotsman on side. On Tuesday evening Oxford took West Brom to penalties despite the Baggies fielding a strong side. It could be a tough season for West Brom fans as another relegation battles looks likely. If this is the case don't expect Alan Irvine to stick around for long…

Recommended Bet: Next Premier League manager to leave their post: Alan Irvine – BetVictor @ 14/1
